Academics at SMCS

Cooperation. Creativity. Exploration.
Lower School at SMCS:
Lower school is a time of exploration, creativity, and learning at SMCS.
Our teachers work closely with parents to ensure that our youngest Tigers are receiving the building blocks they need to build a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, science and comprehension. We encourage students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and engage in a wide variety of learning activities. Our goals at the lower school are to ensure that students are achieving their developmental milestones, learning the fundamentals of academics and experiencing positive emotional and spiritual growth.
Students enhance their critical thinking skills through hands-on learning in subject areas like social studies, science, and math. A strong emphasis on language arts encourages students to develop their love of reading, creative writing and public speaking. St. Michael offers Spanish as a foreign language which provides students with opportunities to explore the Hispanic culture as well as the language. Our small class size allows teachers to closely monitor students’ development and challenge them with age-appropriate activities.
Our educational philosophy means balancing core subjects with moral values and artistic expression. Religion, art, music and more are all integrated at the lower school level to start our students on the path to success in middle school. We also believe it's important to emphasize cooperation, prayer and loving acceptance as important pieces to begin building a moral compass.
We also offer a variety of clubs such as theater, piano, photography, and cooking to give students the ability to develop talents and personal expression.
